Great New Actions for Elements!

November 14, 2008

Panos over at PanoxFX has done it again!  He has created a great new action for Elements called The OOB+ (Out of Bounds plus) it “is an advanced tool which simplifies the steps needed to create the impressive and popular OOB effects.

The action is very flexible; at the beginning it lets you define the area of the photo and its shape; it then lets you define the size of the white border; in the next step you define the out-of-bounds areas. The action makes use of layer masks and this allows you to edit the final effect at the end.

It is available FREE for PSE 5.0-7.0 and a tutorial on how to use it is also included.

And while you are over there be sure and check out all of this other actions which are now available for PSE 7.0.   Including several new items like “Anaylsis” which has a lot of great scraping applications, and “Comics” which turns your images into comics.

And of course he continues to offer fabulous Photoshop actions as well.

CoffeeShop Photography

August 11, 2008

CoffeeShop Photography provides free tutorials and actions for Photoshop and Elements.   The actions for Photoshop work in version 7 and above and the actions for Elements have only been tested in PSE 6.0

The tutorials are related to the actions, not how to run them, but how to create the same effects without the action.   Looking at those tutorials makes you appreciate just how useful actions can be!

Here is an example of just one of the many free actions sets Rita has made available on her blog:

The Pioneer Woman

May 21, 2008

I have been reading the Pioneer Woman’s blog for sometime now and have watched it grow and expand. Ree is an entertaining story teller, and besides the tales of ranch life and great recipes she now has a photography section.

In the photography section she shares tutorials and tips for both photography and for Photoshop. In addition to the free tutorials, she also has a few Photoshop actions that she is giving away. And if that isn’t enough to entice you to check out her blog she also occasionally gives away some really great stuff – like a $500 shopping spree at Kelby Training.

This actions works on landscape oriented images, including digital paper, and turns it in to a fan shape.

Before downloading, double check to be sure you are downloading the correct version for your software. There are also excellent installation instructions available if you need assistance.

The action is simple to run, just click apply and wait for it to do all the rest of the work! When the action is complete the layers are all still intact so that editing is possible. For example, you can easily delete the background layer and then save then fan as a .png file to use in a digiscrap layout.

Finessefx

February 5, 2008

Finessefx is the work of videographer and multimedia designer Karl Sneath. The site features Photoshop actions, styles, brushes and a few tutorials and small forum. The majority of items offered are free, and commercial use is generally permitted.

The styles and brushes should work just fine in Photoshop Elements, but the actions have not been tested in Elements, so it is unknown if they would work there. But for Photoshop users there is a wealth of quality actions available that will enhance your text and your photos.
