Wordle

September 17, 2008

Wordle is a toy for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you like.

Wordle is a Java applet, and Java applets are not permitted to write anything to your disk, so it can’t be saved as a png or jpg file. But you can take a screen shot or convert to PDF. PDF’s can be opened in either Elements or Photoshop and you can edit and add to a digiscrap layout.

Create-your-own tumblers

May 13, 2008

Yesterday Designer Heather Manning showed a create-your-own tumbler project she had created on her blog. She used a Starbucks mug, but I don’t have one of those near-by so went searching on the web and found that Aladdin makes several different styles and sizes.

I have a couple of 16 oz and two 8oz tumblers on order now and turned the Aladdin PDF templates into png files so they would be easier to work with in Photoshop, Elements or PSP. If you’d like to snag them you can find them here. They are set up to be printed out on an letter size sheet of paper and then you simply cut them out along the dotted lines and slide them into the tumbler.

I’m sure there are probably other places you can find these types of tumblers. Thanks to Heather for sharing I know have Father’s Day gifts wrapped up! 🙂

5/15/08 ETA – shipping was very quick! My order arrived today and for those inquiring minds that asked – the scrapbook tumblers do have screw on lids. I

April PCEC Newsletter

April 4, 2008

The April issue of the Photoshop Creative Elements Community newsletter is ready for download. It is available to members only, but membership is free and it only takes you a moment to sign up. (If you are already a member at Viovio.com your user name & password will be the same at PCEC.)

The newsletter is geared towards Photoshop and Elements users and is focused more on photography and tricks using that software, then on digital scrapbooking, however this month there is a digiscrap kit freebie created by yours truly:

natural-boy-preview.jpg

Nothing fancy here, just me experimenting with creating something on the masculine side. There is absolutely no danger of me turning pro, so all of your true professional designers can breathe a sigh of relief. 😉

The feature article this month is part 1 on using Channels in Elements which will give you a greater understanding on how to improve your photos in post processing. Additional tutorials cover topics, like opening eyes, creating montage effects and using Lightroom presets.
